Video Rotate & Flip Milan

In digital video, 'Rotation' and 'Flipping' are mathematically different operations.

Rotation (90° / 180° / 270°): This involves turning the video frame around a center axis. If you recorded a video in Portrait but held the phone sideways, you need to Rotate 90 degrees. This keeps all the pixels, just in a new position.

Flipping (Mirroring): This involves creating a reflection of the video. If you record with a webcam or selfie camera, the image is often 'mirrored' by default so it feels like looking in a mirror. However, this makes text (street signs, books, logos) unreadable. Flipping 'Horizontal' corrects this so the world looks normal again.

There are two ways to rotate a video, and Reelic handles both intelligently.

1. Metadata Rotation (The Fast Way): Most modern video files have a tiny 'Flag' in the header that says 'Rotation: 90'. The video pixels are actually stored sideways, but the player (like VLC or iPhone) reads the flag and rotates it during playback. This is instant and lossless.

2. Hard Transcoding (The Permanent Way): Sometimes, social media apps ignore the metadata flag. You upload a video and it's still sideways. To fix this, you must 'Hard Rotate' the pixels—literally rewriting the image data in the new orientation. Reelic performs this hard rotation to ensure your video plays correctly on every platform, regardless of whether it respects metadata tags.

The 'Locked Screen' Mistake: You locked your phone orientation to Vertical, but then filmed a landscape sunset. The result is a video that plays tall and skinny with a tiny sideways sunset.

The 'Selfie' Effect: You explain a diagram on a whiteboard using your front camera, but the writing is backwards in the recording.

The 'Upside Down' Mount: You mounted a GoPro upside down under a skateboard or drone. The footage looks awesome, but it's inverted.

3. Watch the preview. If the text is readable, you are done.

4. Click Export.

You can rotate videos in the iOS Photos app, but it is 'destructive' (it saves over the original) and often just changes the metadata flag. If you send that 'edited' video to a Windows PC or Android friend, it sometimes reverts to the original orientation. Reelic creates a new, hard-coded file that is bulletproof.
