Not usually. If you are 'downscaling' (e.g. 4K to 1080p), the quality will actually look sharper. If you are 'upscaling' (e.g. 720p to 4K), it might look pixelated because we cannot invent pixels that didn't exist. We generally maintain the original bitrate to keep quality high.

How do I remove the black bars?

Black bars appear when you 'Fit' a video into a shape that doesn't match. To remove them, you need to 'Crop' the video—zooming in until the video touches the edges. We are building a specific 'Crop Tool' for this, but currently, our Resizer favors preserving your full image.

What is the best size for YouTube Shorts?

YouTube Shorts MUST be vertical. The ideal resolution is 1080x1920 (9:16). If you upload a square or landscape video, YouTube might not classify it as a 'Short' and it will miss the Shorts shelf traffic.

Can I resize a vertical video to landscape?

Yes, you can turn a TikTok into a YouTube video. It will have large black bars on the left and right (pillarboxing). To fix this, streamers often duplicate the video, blow it up huge and blurry in the background, and put the sharp vertical video on top (The 'Blur BG' effect).

Does this work on iPhone videos (MOV)?
